1.         I believe my expectation for this course were met. At the beginning of the course I was focused on learning more about different art forms and styles. Every week the modules allowed me to expand my knowledge on artists from around their world and the legacy they left on the art community.

2.         Now that I have been though this course, I am farther away from defining art. I realized that every individual has their own was of interoperating what they see. The elements and principle are guidelines we can use, but the meaning behind individual works is all up to you and your imagination.

3.         My favorite artist at the beginning of the semester was Andy Warhol. I still think he is my favorite because I didn’t feel connected to many of the artists we learned about. Warhol has a unique, vibrant style that I find attractive and pleasing.

4.         I was very nervous about taking an online course but this was a great experience. Having all of the modules open on day one but also having deadlines for them made me stay on task and focused on my work.  I would definitely do it again.

1.         This work of art is unique and I have never seen something like this before. The first thing that comes to my mind is the unorthodox shapes the distinctive dimensions of the creatures stand out from one another but flow to create one cohesive image. When looking at it from a far, it looks like a black, white, and gray blob. From up close you can see the detail of the image. As a viewer, this image is though provoking and mysterious. I see distinct line work and structure. I see a complex image that involves intellectual thought.

2.         When I think of the meaning behind why this work of art was created, I think of an artist who is trying to escape reality. The creatures depicted look like animas and humans, maybe some sort of mental disability hospital. Peoples heads are on the ground and animals look in terror. The artist may have been omitted into some sort of home that kept disabled patients. This is a different type of art that requires a deep thought. T her are many variations of what viewers can take from this and all depends on what your eyes see.

3.         After doing some research, I realize that this was done in response to the bombing of Guernica. I know understand where the artist is coming from in the craziness of his work. The distress and terror on the creature’s face is because of the bombing. There is a relation between the artwork and the time period this was taken place in. it saddens me to look at but it was important to create.

4.         Like I said before, this image pulls out an emotional impact for the viewer. The distress on the creatures faces makes you feel for them and what they are going though. For example, all the way on the left side there is a woman like figure holding what looks like a dead child. She is screaming and upset and looks like her life is also coming to an end. Another example is the man looking structure all the way on the right. You can not tell where is body is and that’s what makes it scary.

5.         Some strengths I see in this work are the use of emotion. As a viewer I can feel what they were feeling and it creates a connection between me and the painting. I think a piece tat you can connect to on a emotional level is the best type of art. Another strength is the use of black and white. If there was color, it would have given the piece an uplifting feeling. The dark colors add to the dark emotions depicted in the image. A weakness this piece has is the ability to depict what is taking place. The creatures do not have a full body and there are random shapes on their body that are not proportionate. This makes what the viewer is saying quite confusing.

1.         For my inspiration pieces I used the online Google gallery and visited the Israel Museum. The first piece I picked was the portrait of Leopold Zborowski. I chose this piece because it was not a clear portrait; the different strokes and colors create a unique way the man is depicted. The next inspiration piece is called the portrait of Mme. Paulin. This painting stood out to me because of what this woman is wearing. Her outfit stands out and makes a statement, but her face looks sad and bland. It makes the viewer think of who the woman truly is. My final inspiration piece is A Woman in a Flowered Dress. I like this piece because the woman does not have a name, or any symbols that show of who she is. She is normal like you and me and the viewer can create any story they want about her.

2.         I chose to draw my self portrait because I enjoy drawing and I felt that I could put forward my best work with this project with a pencil and paper.

3.         The biggest challenged I faced with this project was matching facial features from the photo and my drawing. I don’t really draw people so features like noses and ears are not my specialty. I overcame hem by looking at my inspiration pieces and taking what I could from them.

4.         My portrait represents me because it depicts the type of person I am. I love make up, having fun, and dressing up. I feel like this is a great photo of me and one I was able to draw correctly and gave a representation of the fun loving person I am.

5.         Some elements and principles I used were color, line, proportion, and gradation.

6.         This project was not my favorite. I wish there were examples of what I was supposed to exactly do because I am not sure I even did the right thing. Overall I think my project is nice. I like the picture I took of myself and I was able to draw it somewhat accurately.
