1.         The first film was very interesting to me because it was so different from the ones we have watched all semester long. Lowbrow art is pop art in which the artist can create as they please. There are no rules and the pieces have nothing the viewer can go into deep intellectual thought about. This form of abstract expression was expanded from the internet and is now known all over the world. Lowbrow work is deviated from the norm and unique the the artist.

The second videos link said the channel was removed.

The third video was focused on the Metropolitan Museum of Art and its director de Montebello. This video talked about how art is brought into a museum, the jobs or the curators, and different sales pitches and meetings that happen during the process of buying a piece of art. The conservation of the art in the museum is very important since the collections are big and display pieces from all around the world.

2.         These videos helped me come up with ideas for my project. The Metropolitian video related the most to the project because I need to decide what works are going into my project to create an overall theme for my exhibition. The first video slightly relates but seems opposite to what I am doing. The artists stated that their work was not displayed in museums because it was out of the ordinary.

3.         I think the films were interesting because they were not about the history of different artists and styles like we usually watch. Instead it was about how the art gets into these world class museums and the steps behind it.  

1.         I chose the videos about Andy Warhol and Hockney. I have always been interested in Warhols work and found it unique. Hockneys worked seemed like it could be similar so I chose that video as well.

2.         The main points from the Andy Warhol video was the relationship he had with different celebrities and how he portrayed what they were going though. He used the silk screen style that was easily reproducible. He made images that would distract the eye and force the viewer tot establish their own meaning behind the art. The Hockney video was focused on his art and the perception of pictures. Hockney, like Warhol, had a unique trend by making the eye focus on different sections of the image that you wouldn’t normally look.

3.         The text related to the videos and gave me a deeper understanding of what I watched. It highlighted modernism and its influence on the 60s and 70s. Pop art was highlighted along with abstraction and photorealism. It later touched on social issues and how artists in the late 1900s used art to address public problems.

4.         The videos did help me understand the concepts more. They showed different works of art that made me think since these artists created work that makes the viewer create their own meaning behind it.

The piece is beautiful in the way the rocks form together. The style is unique and gives it a 3d look. 

The artwork depicted is different from the rest because it is more intricate. The linear strokes are cohesive like the bottom piece. The beautiful sunset and the ship make a comfortable aesthetic feel. 

The artist was trying to express the different colors and how they combine though this art work. When the colors combine they form new ones and the streaks express the flowing pattern.

The art gallery I went to was the West Seneca Art Gallery.

The exhibit that was taking place was displaying the artwork of students that attend West Seneca West Senior High School.

The theme of the exhibit was based on color paintings and how simple strokes can create a masterpiece.

There was a simple lighting in the gallery. There were a lot of windows so the paintings were being illuminated by the daylight.

The color of the walls were mostly a cream white tone but some were gray or brown. No vibrant colors that could throw off any of the paintings.

There were 5 rooms in the gallery. There were some pieces of art on tables but most of them were hung up on walls or on windowsills.

The movement was easy to follow since the rooms were wide and open and had hallways that led to the next area. You could easily navigate the small area.

The art works were not organized in any particular order but they kept all of the student pieces together in the same room.

The art works were similar because they looked like they all sued the same brush stroke.

They were different because they were different paintings and some were more complex than others.

The artworks have some simple frames both thick and thin that surrounded them.

Next to the art there was small label that said the name and the age of the student that created it.

The art work was closely bunched together.

  

1, The videos I watched were The Mystical North: Spanish Art and the Impact of Cubism. I picked the first video because I was interested in Spanish art and did not know much about it. I thought it would be something new to learn about. In that video they mentioned cubism but did not expand much on it so I picked the cubism video so I would obtain knowledge about that style of art.  

2. For the Spanish art video, I learned a lot about the different artists including Goya, Gaudi, and Picasso. I learned about their unique styles including Goya’s darkness and age of doubt, Gaudi’s organic, sexy, shapes, and Picassos spirituality and sensuality. The second video about cubism thought me about the concept of the style that included freeing the art from imitation with shadows, dark and light contract, and making the abstract become concrete.

3. The text related exactly to the readings and gave me a more in depth understanding of the actual style of art instead of learning about the people. I learned why the art styles were the way they were and where it derived from. There were many background events that the text talked about that influenced the artists to make their work a certain way. It was all about their experiences with the outside world, the people they encountered, and actions taking place.

4. I believe the films gave me a deeper understanding of art concepts because I was unaware of most of these artists and their work. I am now more educated on Spain, the culture, and the artists during the time period. I especially feel like I was connected to cubism and the intriguing design of the style.
